RAMP Requirements vs RAMP Certification

Pennsylvania liquor licensees are required to have the owner or the “premises manager” certified under the Responsible Alcohol Management Program (“RAMP”) within 6 months of becoming an owner or becoming the premises manager. Additionally any employee hired on or after Aug. 8, 2016 who serves or sells alcoholic beverages, checks IDs (including bartenders, waiters, bouncers, doorpersons, beer distributor sales clerks, etc.) must complete RAMP server/seller training within six months of being hired by a licensee, unless that individual successfully completed RAMP server/seller training prior to being hired.

In addition to the required RAMP trainings, a licensee can become RAMP certified through a voluntary program that provides incentives for licensees who complete five training and application components required by the LCB.

Licensees are encouraged to explore and complete the RAMP certification program, which is designed to assist licensees in educating new hires, current employees and themselves in legal and responsible alcohol service.
