Over the past few years, the number of appeals by property owners from their real estate assessments has increased significantly as a result of the decline in values in the real estate market. Property owners who wish to file appeals from their assessments are required to do so by certain deadlines.
The deadlines for filing a real estate property tax assessment appeal in Bucks and Montgomery Counties have been changed from September 1 to August 1. The August 1 deadline is the same as in effect for Delaware and Chester Counties.
The August 1 deadline also applies to applications for real estate tax exemptions. Anyone wishing to file a real property tax assessment appeal must do so by the August 1 deadline; otherwise, they will be unable to file an appeal until the next tax year.
